You can see Matcha latte in many coffees today. Its aroma, flavour and beautiful milky green look, Matcha latte is something difficult to resist.
However, matcha and milk pair isn’t a great match in terms of health benefits unfortunately. The protein found in milk binds with the antioxidants from green tea and that reduces absorption of catechin into blood.
How about Matcha Amazake, then? Amazake (甘酒) literally means sweet sake which is a traditional Japanese drink. Amazake has been drunk over 1000 years. It is thick and sweet and famous for Hinamatsuri (雛祭り) , doll festival for girls held on the 3rd of March.
There are two types of Amazake, one is made from Sakekasu (酒粕) which contains a bit of alcohol and sugar, and the other is from Komekoji (米麹), rice molt.
This Komekoji Amazake (米麹甘酒) is the one has made a comeback recently as a superfood for its naturally nutritiousness. It is even called IV (intravenous) drink. Komekoji Amazake doesn’t contain alcohol nor sugar but is rich in many kinds of amino acids, vitamin B components and oligosaccharides. Therefore, this beverage works for strengthening the immune system, avoiding constipation, anti-ageing and making skin beautiful.
So, when Amazake is mixed with Matcha the drink turns out very nutritious like green tea and rice!
Matcha Amazake would be THE new superfood pair can be seen in coffee shops!
